Complete used running vintage Puch single speed 49cc 2 stroke moped engine from an early 1977 Maxi. This engine is a direct replacement for all single speed Puch powered mopeds with a 5 wire magneto assembly but can easily be adapted to fit newer 6-wire versions including Sears Free Spirit, JC Penney Pinto and Swinger models and Murray.

This 2 hp engine features a open port aluminum cylinder assembly, 14 mm Bing carb, 5 wire Bosch magneto, 2 shoe clutch and a Bosch HT coil. While the cylinder was off being inspected, we installed new rings and honed the cylinder. This engine has a 5 wire magneto installed as was found in most Puch Mopeds manufactured 7/1977 and earlier. You can identify which electrical style you have by looking at the wires going to the horn. If one of the wires is a purple or lavender color, you have a 5 wire. If the horn wires are blue and brown, you have a 6 wire system.

This engine will need to have the carb thoroughly cleaned, ignition serviced and timed and a new spark plug installed before using.

If you don't need all the components like carb, magneto or cylinder, you can choose the options to have them removed prior to shipping which will also save you money on the purchase price.If you have a newer moped with the 6 wire magneto, contact us and we may be able to swap t out at no additional charge.

All used engines are inspected by us to help ensure that you receive a quality used engine but we can not be 100% certain of the engine internals, bearings, seal, gaskets, rings, bushings, clutch surfaces, etc. If we state the engine came off a running moped, it means that the engine started, idled, and propelled the rear wheel without noticeable or obvious mechanical issues.

Engines are inspected for:

  • Damaged cylinder walls, gouged piston surfaces and broken rings
  • Connecting rod vertical play
  • Crankshaft lateral and vertical play
  • Crack, damaged or altered cases
  • Transmission play and friction
Other components when included like carbs, clutches, variators, magnetos and ignition have also been visually inspected but are also offered without implied guarantee or warranty
